Emanuel Geibel (1815-1884) was a German poet and writer of lyric poetry. He was born in Lübeck, Germany and studied at the University of Bonn, where he became interested in literature and began publishing his work. He was known for his romantic poetry, which often dealt with themes of love and nature. He also translated the works of other poets, including the Turkish poet Hafiz, and wrote plays and novels. He was widely recognized for his contributions to German literature and was awarded numerous honors during his lifetime, including the Order of the Red Eagle and the Pour le Mérite. He died in Lübeck in 1884. Today, he is still considered one of the greatest lyric poets of the 19th century in Germany.
